National Cybersecurity Strategy – a new direction for skills development
The Swedish strategy for cybersecurity, launched by Minister for Civil Defense Carl-Oskar Bohlin together with the Ministry of Defense, describes the national work for a cyber-secure Sweden during the period 2025–2029. The strategy marks a new era and represents a clear increase in ambition on the part of the government to meet the growing threats and vulnerabilities that exist in the digital landscape.
The strategy is based on both national needs and the EU's NIS 2 directive, and aims to address a wide range of challenges. The government has also decided on an action plan that will be followed up and updated annually. This plan is based on three pillars:
- Pillar A: Systematic and effective cybersecurity work
- Pillar B: Developed knowledge and skills development in cybersecurity
- Pillar C: Ability to prevent and manage cybersecurity incidents
For Cybercampus Sweden, the strategy is an important governing document that clearly sets the direction for where the efforts will be most beneficial.
– The strategy emphasizes the importance of a triple-helix collaboration between authorities, academia and business, which is completely in line with our mission from the government, says Mette Svensson, business developer for continuing education at Cybercampus Sweden.
– By collecting information about skills and training needs from different sectors, we can contribute to a resilient Sweden and strengthen the position of companies.
Focus on skills development
Pillar B of the strategy – Developed knowledge and skills development in cybersecurity – is particularly relevant to Cybercampus Sweden's work in education.
– Pillar B is about raising awareness, building competence at all levels and promoting Swedish research and innovation. That is exactly what we are working on here at Cybercampus, says Mette Svensson.
– Our education strategy has been developed in collaboration with Swedish universities and other relevant actors, and it directly responds to the goals of the national cybersecurity strategy.
Cybercampus Sweden is actively working to achieve several of the strategy's goals:
- Goal 7 – Increased cybersecurity awareness and cyber hygiene in society
– We offer basic broad training that increases competence at all levels and for different needs, says Mette.
- Goal 8 – Strengthened competence supply, education and training in cybersecurity
– Cybercampus functions as a hub for education in both the private and public sectors. We offer agile and needs-adapted training formats – from basic to advanced level – for professional roles such as cybersecurity specialists, lawyers, healthcare professionals and decision-makers, explains Mette.
- Goal 9 – Strengthened research and innovation
– Our investments contribute to a safe, digitalized and resilient Sweden. Because our activities span research, innovation and education, we can quickly translate research results into practically useful education, concludes Mette.
